How this estimate is worked out

Every figure below is a real, current Malaysian number, not a made-up rate.

1. Your bill becomes energy used

Since the July 2025 TNB tariff, a typical home under 1,500 kWh a month pays roughly 44 sen per kWh all-in (27.03 sen energy + 4.55 capacity + 12.85 network). We use that to turn your bill into the units (kWh) you use each month.

2. Energy used sets the system size

In Perak a solar panel produces about 115 kWh per kWp per month (roughly 4 hours of strong sun a day). We size the system to cover your usage, adjusted for your roof, and cap it at the 12 kW residential limit.

3. Size sets the cost

A fully installed residential system in Malaysia runs about RM3,000-4,000 per kWp in 2026 (Tier-1 panels, hybrid inverter, mounting, and SEDA/NEM approval). We use RM3,500 as a mid-point.

4. Savings shown as a range, not a single figure

This is the honest part. Power you use as it's generated saves the full ~44 sen retail rate. Power you export earns less, and under the shift from NEM 3.0 to Solar ATAP in 2026, export is no longer matched 1-to-1 and credits no longer roll over. Because how much you self-use depends on your household, we show a range: the low end assumes you export most of it, the high end assumes you use most of it at home. Ticking "someone's home during the day" shifts you toward the high end.

What this can't know

Your exact usage pattern, roof measurements, shading through the day, and the final export rules for 2026 all move the number. That's what a site visit is for, this tool gets you to the right ballpark so you know if it's worth a conversation.
